first day of school

The new school year began on Wednesday: Sebastian in 10th grade, and Liesl in 7th.

Jazzy tried to follow Liesl out the door. He was sad to be abandoned by his people.

first Lincoln JV game vs Sunset

Sebastian's soccer team kicked off their fall season on Monday with an afternoon game against Sunset High school. They played well, especially in the second half as they started to figure out their passing game, and won 2-0. Seb played a bit more than half of the minutes, sharing time with other midfielders.

Next game is supposed to be on Saturday in Bend -- we'll see if the wildfire smoke lifts or blows in another direction, and makes that game possible.

last morning at the lake

We woke up to a cold but calm morning. Mist was rising off the lake, and it was gorgeous and clear as glass. I took Jasper out on a short paddle, and then the girls got on the SUP and floated for a bit. Eventually the sun came out and warmed us all up, and everyone gathered their courage to dive in.

And then we packed everything up and drove home, happy to have had a final summer trip, happy that the smoke blew away for us. Liesl had volleyball tryouts on Weds night; Ella had a soccer practice; and I had a work event at 5:30. So it's back to the flurry of fall for us.

Timothy Lake continued

On Tuesday afternoon, the wind really picked up over the lake -- there were giant waves sloshing over the dock and white caps in the middle of the water. The girls tried to take the paddleboard out but it was less than fun to fight the current and wind, so they quickly returned to shore. They did manage to gather all of their brave powers and jump into the water, which was pretty impressive.

The girls were so cold and needed to warm up -- they tried wrapping in towels and lying on the warm dock, but when that wasn't enough they retreated to the tent and sleeping bags for a ridiculous game of squirmy-wormy (wrap yourself up and jump around in a sleeping bag, crashing into the other person and knocking them over and then wrestling on the ground).

So much giggling. And then more coziness in the hammock.
We ate an early dinner and then enjoyed a gorgeous sunset over the lake.
