more snow fun

More snow fell on Thursday night into Friday morning, but the wind died down and the bitter cold started to recede. We took Jasper over to the field first thing and got our snow angels in before the snow was disturbed.

Jasper and I walked down to the pond and then back up to the top of the hill before I settled in for a few hours of Zoom meetings.

Ella's house was the center of a neighborhood sledding party on Friday afternoon - lots of kids and their parents, hanging around outside eating pizza and enjoying the firepit, taking turns coming down the steep hill and banking the 90 degree corner onto Engleman. They built a ramp once the existing snow started melting away. Jasper and I walked down at 4 to join the fun -- to talk, not to sled!

We had waffles and fruit for dinner, and Steve brought home some lovely purple roses and chocolates to celebrate Valentine's Day.

snow days

We had our annual snowstorm in Portland this week - 3-4 inches of snow falling on Thursday and Friday. Schools closed; the city shut down; the roads are a mess. We kept our power this time and had plenty of food, so we've been cozy and happy. Especially Jasper -- so, so happy to play in the snow.

Liesl went to Ella's house on Thursday afternoon and never returned - stayed for dinner, stayed to sleep over, stayed all day Friday. There's been sledding and dancing and board games and much else.

Unrelated: Liesl learned to play Fifa soccer on the Xbox at her friend Ella's house, and played against Seb. He generously took the somewhat broken controller and the worse-rated team, and also simultaneously played Geoguessr against me, and the result was a win for Liesl. Much joy! Seb beat me in Geoguessr, despite having a quarter of the time to locate the place on the map.

Seb’s school projects

Seb is taking a product design course this year, and it is introducing him to so many cool hands-on crafts -- really amazing that he gets to experience this as a high school course, with an incredibly well-stocked classroom.

The first project was designing and sewing a leather wallet.
Next up, a weaving project. Seb made the yellow brick road leading to the Emerald City.
Third, batik dying. Seb drew a Formula 1 race car on a Brazilian-flagged track.
In unrelated news, Seb dressed up for the Winter Formal (he and his friends attended for a hot minute - I guess the preparty and after-party were more fun.)

And a random selfie from the Chipotle parking lot.
