Little League softball state championship

Liesl and her all-stars team, the Southwest Talons, won their district tournament and qualified for the Oregon state Little League softball championship, held this year in Madras (central Oregon). Liesl and I drove out on Saturday morning for the adventure. It was so hot and sunny - high desert sunny, which somehow makes you feel like you're much closer to the sun and burning up. We stayed at the same hotel as her teammates, and there was an indoor pool, and many team lunches and dinners. It was a really fun weekend for the girls.

They played Blue Mountain for their first game on Saturday, at 4:30. Blue Mountain would be the eventual state champs, and they shellacked us 22-4. (They beat every other team by similar amounts, winning 20-0, 24-4, etc.). Our second game was on Sunday morning at 9, and we won. Played again on Sunday at 4:30 against Illinois Valley and won easily. And then finally played on Monday morning at 9 against Corvallis, and lost. The girls took home bronze medals and were so, so proud of themselves.

Liesl played shortstop for all the games, and was in the middle of the batting order. She got on base pretty consistently with short hits and speedy base running.

SAFE! (Maybe should've slid...)
OUT! By a hair.
