Anja and her family (Luna, Reiko, and Zeke the puppy) were also in Bend for the weekend, so we hung out with them on Saturday night around the firepit outside their lodge. Liesl and Reiko were initially a little shy with each other, but then they bonded on the monkey bars and through the game Exploding Kittens. :) Jasper and Zeke chased each other around and chewed pine cones together and wrestled. And the adults got to hang out, sip some wine and cider, and actually socialize like normal, civilized, pre-Covid people. It was glorious. (Sadly Seb was the odd one out -- he read his book and watched some videos, and was patient.)
And then on Sunday morning, Anja and I met up for our usual Sunday morning run, along the banks of the Deschutes River instead of in Forest Park. The river trail was just perfect - mostly flat, soft-packed dirt, with the river in view nearly the whole time, through a beautiful high desert forest of junipers and pines. Jasper came with us and was in doggie heaven.
