reading and writing

Sebastian read his first real book to us - an Elephant & Piggie book by Mo Willems - on the way to the Saturday farmers market last weekend. And then he received a fabulous birthday present from cousins Sam & Eve of beginner books, including Fred and Ted go Camping. And so he read that too, with a little help. We are so thrilled that he's reading now and finally getting over his anxiety about it.

He's also adding more stories and words to his drawings, and using writing in more contexts. The other day he left a note for Steve that said "playing downstairs". I've started putting notes in his lunchbox, which he and his friend Max puzzle out together. And he drew this illustration and story for school:

It almost makes up for the fact that jumping on the beds is strictly forbidden in our house. :)
