Modena/Maranello

Steve got up early and went for a sticky run around a nearby park -- I followed a bit later and just walked. The park was on the site of an old fort, and there was a trail that circled it on top of the old wall. We tried out three different coffee shops and decided that Cafe Tommasini was our favorite.

Our adventure for today was visiting the city of Modena and then returning to Maranello for the Ferrari museum. Modena was a bigger place, bit more touristy than Parma, with many large plazas and classic porticos. We got pizza (excellent) and pasta (meh) for lunch, then wandered the town, shopping for teenager clothes and souvenirs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We really wanted to see the church/duomo, but sadly, on Mondays (only on Mondays!) it is closed from 12-3:30. We climbed up the town tower instead.

 

 

 

After that, we drove to the Giusti family balsamic vinegar producer just outside of town, which has been in existence for 400 years in the same family. We enjoyed the tour, seeing the barrels (some of which are hundreds of years old), learning about the process of making the vinegar, and tasting five or six varieties.

 

 

 

 

After that, we drove to the Enzo Ferrari museum in Modena.

 

 

 

  

And after that, to the Ferrari museum in Maranello.

  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Seb did a simulation race on the Silverstone track, which is the one we're going to see in two weeks. His first lap was a little rough, but he got better and better with each full lap.

 

 

 

Daily gelato, of course.

 

And then dinner at Ristorante Cavallino in Maranello, which was Ferrari-themed/affiliated.
