London shopping/playing

Friday was our last day in London. In the morning, Liesl and I headed out to Spitalfields market for some shopping – Spitalfields was historically a market for vegetables and other agricultural products, but has been repurposed into an enormous covered marketplace with small sellers and stalls. We had a lovely time looking at clothes, jewelry, and other trinkets, and bought a few fun things, and ate lunch from one of the food trucks.

At Grace St. Paul's, the tiny cafe on the street outside our apartment. We got some assortment of porridge with raisins, veggie omelettes, toast, smoked salmon bagels, and a flat white or cappucino, nearly every morning.

I love all of the soaring ceilings of the old English train stations.
An enormous meringue from Ottolenghi's cafe -- he's a famous food writer.
Riding on top of a red double decker bus!

In the afternoon, we headed to the Kensington area for food and exploring Kensington and Hyde Parks. Steve and Seb bought a soccer ball and we played some footie on the old Hyde Park pitches.

Kensington Palace and gardens.
We were surprised by how wide open it was in Hyde Park - lots of crisscrossing pedestrian paths, and rows of trees, but then lots of grassy play/picnic areas everywhere. I was expecting something more manicured.

Liesl showing off her new ring and ear cuff - from the Spitalfields market. We were both happy with our purchases. After playing around we were tired, so we took the Tube home to St Paul's for a final time, and packed up our things for a morning departure.
