soccer camp

Sebastian spent all of last week at a soccer camp, his one and only organized activity of the summer. The camp was run by a club organization called Bernie Fagan Soccer and was (happily) across the street from our house at the elementary school field. Camp lasted from 10-3; the morning was skill building exercises and drills, then lunch, and then the afternoon was shooting contests and scrimmages. Campers ranged in age from 5-12, so Sebastian was one of the youngest. It was unfortunately ridiculously hot all week long - above 90 every day and ferociously sunny. I slathered SPF 60 sunscreen all over Seb's face and neck and arms - he looked like a ghost - and sent him with two bottles of water and instructions to seek the shade whenever possible.

He did really well, fully participating in all of the drills, learning various moves, practicing his juggling and dribbling, and in the scrimmages chasing down the ball, playing defense, moving forward on offense, and gamely taking on kids twice his size. It was great; I was really proud of his effort, enthusiasm, and attention. Of course, he was exhausted by Friday, and very grouchy that night and on Saturday.

I took a few photos, but sadly lack the telephoto lens that would make sports pictures more than just a placeholder to remember the occurrence.
