beautiful fall weekend

It was amazing this weekend in Portland - sunny and crisp, low 70s, blue blue sky. After a couple of weeks of overcast skies and unseasonably heavy rain, it was extremely welcome, and we spent as much time outside as we could. The leaves are starting to change color, although we have noticed that it is not as spectacular here as in the northeast; we think it's because there are so many evergreen trees here, so fewer trees in the native forest actually do change with the season.

Saturday morning we went to the farmers market and two of our favorite bakeries, and after naptime for a lovely little hike in Forest Park, and then we got takeout sushi for dinner and ate outside at a park in the Pearl District. The children gobbled some food and then played in the playground as the sun set over the hills.

Like everyone else we know, we went to a pumpkin farm today - Lakeview Farm - where there were mini train rides, a boat ride, enormous wheelbarrows, pony rides, a huge corn maze and a mini hay bale maze, and animals to pet (including five adorable baby kittens).  Between Friday's visit and today's, we have 14 pumpkins of various sizes, from the tiny decorative gourds to an enormous one we snagged today.
