JV2 girls soccer!!

Liesl spent all of August going to high school soccer preseason training sessions, along with a week of tryouts. We were proud of her for making the JV2 squad, the third (of 4) teams at Lincoln. She's on the team with many of her friends, including her bestie Ella. So far, so fun. They had their first game on Wednesday against Sunset High school, winning 5-0.

Lincoln played Hood River on Thursday night at home.  It was a beautiful night for soccer and there was a good crowd, including lots of Seb's friends. Seb started, which was so fun to see, and his team was attacking and controlling the ball from the very beginning. They could have scored 10 goals in the first 20 minutes. The final score was 7-0, quite a blowout.

Rainier: Palisades lakes

On Saturday, we returned to Sunrise and hiked down to a series of lakes -- Sunrise Lake, Hidden Lake, Clover Lake, and Upper Palisades Lake. We scrambled a half mile up to Brown's Peak and were rewarded with an amazing view of Rainier -- perfect spot for lunch.

Hidden Lake -- we had to hike up a very steep pass to get here, and it was totally worth it.

hiking at Rainier: Burroughs Mtn

Adrienne, Marin, and I went camping and hiking at Mt Rainier this past weekend. We hiked 20 miles over two days, with about 5000 ft of elevation gain. It was unexpectedly hot, even at elevation, so we started hiking at 7:30 am both days to avoid it. We stayed at Silver Springs campground in the Baker/Snoqualmie national forest and drove in to the Sunrise entrance of Rainier. 

 

On Friday, we hiked to Burroughs Mountain, which was very exposed and windy. We started on Sourdough Ridge and passed Frozen Lake, then continued across a high plateau to Burroughs mountain. You could see all the glaciers up close -- pretty spectacular. We did a reverse lollipop loop, coming back down by an overlook of the White River and Shadow Lake.  

 

 

The long trail going horizontally across the frame is the Wonderland trail, which circumnavigates the entire mountain. It's 90+ miles to backpack the whole thing. 

 

Fremont Lookout, the tiny structure at the end of that trail. It's a popular spot to watch the sun set over the mountain.

This marmot was amazing -- scampered across a meadow to pose for us on top of this rock.

Heading back down -- it was pretty hot as we got lower in elevation and out of the wind.
