heat wave

We had an unprecedented heat wave in Portland in late June -- three scorchingly hot days in a row, reaching 113 degrees on the last day, Monday. We mostly stayed inside and blessed our air-conditioning, but Liesl and I did try to fry an egg on the back deck. Not particularly edible, but definitely cooked a bit.

Poor Jasper was unable to be outside very much -- the pavement burned his paws and he's not made for such extreme heat. There were occasional breezes but even that air felt hot on your skin. Anja and I, training for our upcoming race, ran 8 miles early on Sunday morning, and that felt miserable. When it broke on Monday night we could literally feel a cool breeze coming from the west. Thank goodness.
