Memorial Day weekend

We had a delightful Memorial Day long weekend - it was unscheduled and unhurried, and we spent it together. We had some adventures and some dinners out, but also a lot of time inside our house and playing together at the school field. Saturday was cold and rainy and we were all tired (and battling colds), so we curled up inside and ate waffles, read books, watched a movie (Bolt - a cartoon about a movie dog), and were generally cozy. On Sunday I went climbing in the morning with Liesl - she did ten climbs, including two 10a's up the tall wall, which made me super proud. And in the afternoon I went biking on the Banks-Vernonia trail with Sebastian - we made it 18 miles (!) which led to some loopiness and giggles at the halfway point.
And then on Monday morning we visited the Japanese Garden for the first time in years - since they renovated the entrance and added new spaces. It was as beautiful as we remembered and it was sweet to return.
In the afternoon we went to a sports store (new cleats, batting gloves, summer sandals) and a bookstore, and then after dinner played family baseball at the school field. Tomorrow we're back to school, work, and a baseball game, and the next month is jam-packed with activities.

PE teacher for the day

At the school auction, we bid and won the prize of having our kid be PE Teacher for the day. A chance to skip class all day and hang out in the gym and on the field, directing other kids and playing games. We thought Seb might want it, but he deferred and Liesl was super excited. Today was the day! (It was also school spirit day: Liesl's class voted to wear pjs and bring stuffies; Seb's class decided to wear sports gear.)

dance photos

Liesl's ballet and hip hop classes had their pre-recital photos on Sunday morning. She loved getting all fancied up for the photo shoot.
(terrible lighting. I'll hope the official photog had better lighting than I did for her official photo.)

Banks baseball tourney

Sebastian's baseball team had a tournament this weekend in Banks - two Saturday games and one on Sunday morning. They had a great day, winning both games they played, the first handily (11-1) and the second in a squeaker (9-8 in the bottom of the 4th inning). Sebastian pitched the whole second game and did very well through the end of it - his 4th inning included a number of strikeouts. The team started off his game a little sleepy, with a lot of unforced errors in the first inning, and fell behind 6-1. But Seb kept his composure and kept throwing his pitches, which was tremendous, and it was really fun to see them battle back and win in the end.

Jasper found a good napping spot during the game - a big, shaded tree.
