Thanksgiving dinner

We cooked Thanksgiving dinner at home, a mix of prepared foods (stuffing, gravy, rolls, pie) and homemade dishes. It was a whole family affair, which was new and wonderful. Liesl was a fantastic sous chef, setting the table, making the cranberry sauce and the mashed potatoes, and prepping other veggies. Seb was on cleanup duty, washing the pots and pans. Steve fought with the partly frozen turkey (an 18-lb monstrosity from Champoeg Farms; he won, but maybe next year we'll go for a spatchcocked bird.

 

 

 

 

Jasper celebrated Thanksgiving too. 

 

 

After dinner, we played Ticket to Ride. We've had this game for years but have never played it for real, with all of the game rules introducing strategic maneuvering. It was much more fun and challenging to have specific goals/destinations and to try and block each other. Seb won!

Thanksgiving week

We've had a lovely week of fun together: board games, ice skating, pickle ball, an escape room, movie night (Devil Wears Prada), and of course cooking and eating Thanksgiving dinner.

I don't get to skate much anymore, but I sure love it. And somehow I haven't forgotten how.

Carl and Roxy visit!

Carl and Roxy came to visit us for the weekend! They wanted to see a Hannah Bahng concert at the Wonder ballroom on Saturday night (kpop). It was so fun to get to see them.

 

Liesl drove us to Target! 

 

 

The girls spent a lot of time outside, taking photos. 

We went out for brunch on Saturday at Fat Milo's, and made French toast on Sunday at our house.

Roxy approved of Steve's matcha setup.

Carl and I went bouldering at PRG while the girls wandered outside and did a craft project.

Seb turns 18!

We celebrated Seb's 18th birthday this week. 18! We had a lovely, quiet, family day. He opened lots of presents, mostly food and clothes.

 

Liesl's card wins the prize. 

As ever, waffles, bacon, and berries for breakfast.

In the afternoon, Seb, Jasper, and I went for a walk in Forest Park. Jasper was thrilled to have Seb along and dashed around happily with him. They even sprinted together up the final hill back to the gate, half a mile, while I walked.

 

Is there anything better than a midafternoon birthday nap? 

 

Dinner at Grassa. Pasta.  

Seb requested an apple pie again for his bday dessert. Hard to stick a candle in it, but delicious.

I made a collage of Seb on his birthday from ages one day through 5. Sigh. We raised an adult! He can vote! It was so fast.
