Nehalem continued

We woke up to steady rain, which continued through the morning (expected) and then all afternoon (not expected). We spent the day in the tent and car, and in the town of Manzanita, getting uncomfortably soggy.

Even Jasper was unhappy with the drizzle.

By dinnertime, it was still cloudy, but the rain had stopped.

With a generous assist from the man in the RV next to us, who brought dry matches and firestarter, chopped logs into kindling, and gave us a stack of dry wood, we managed to get a fire started. It was so good to feel the heat, to roast marshmallows, and to dry off a bit.
Jasper hiding from the rain, the dark, the drizzle....
Fortunately, Tuesday morning was clear, and as the day went on it cleared up some more. We threw the ball for Jazzy at Nehalem, packed up our tent and stuff, and then explored some more at Hug Point beach before driving home. It certainly wasn't the smoothest/easiest of camping trips, but it was memorable. And the Oregon coast is always beautiful.

camping at Nehalem

Liesl, Roxy, and I left on Sunday to go camping at Nehalem Bay State Park in Manzanita. Our original plan to camp at Clear Lake had to be abandoned because of wildfire smoke, so it was fortunate that we could get a last-minute reservation at the beach. Cannon Beach was wonderful as always -- we ate lunch at Tom's, got candy at Bruce's, and then had a great afternoon on the beach.

We arrived at our campsite and got ourselves set up and enjoyed dinner.

The sunset over Nehalem Bay was just stunning. Jasper loved running into the waves and chasing balls and sticks, and it seemed like he would keep fetching forever.

Jasper was so tired. He curled up outside the tent at 9 and was clearly just waiting for bedtime.
