We drove across the state on Saturday morning in order to spend a few hours in Miami before flying home. I've never been to Miami and was excited to see it; Seb was hoping and expecting to see some super cars; Liesl was looking forward to swimming in the ocean.
Our first stop was lunch, at a Cuban restaurant. We had ropa vieja, flank steak with black beans and rice, seafood paella, empanadas and croquetas, and a Cubano sandwich. It was delicious and ridiculously filling.
Second stop was dropping Seb off in an area of Miami Beach called Bal Harbour; according to his sources, it was the best place to spot fancy cars. He hung out there for an hour, seeing many Porsches and at least one McLaren, and then hopped the public bus along Collins Ave back to us.
We had purchased a day pass at one of the hotels that line Miami Beach, which gave us access to the hotel pools and the private beach beyond. We swam in the pool for awhile, which was as warm as bathwater, and then dipped ourselves into the Atlantic Ocean. So warm compared to the Pacific!!
And then it was time to go: we packed up again and drove to
the airport, and flew home to Portland. It was a direct flight, which
was lovely, but it landed at 12:30am Portland time, which was 3:30 Eastern -- very tiring and long day, but a good one.
