semi-final game

Seb's PCU team played in the President's Cup semi-finals yesterday afternoon against Woodburn FC. PCU scored a goal at the end of the first half -- Seb brought the ball up the sideline and had an amazing cross to assist -- but then again struggled in the second half. They were more tentative and defensive and the other team was pushing and shooting on goal. Woodburn scored with 10 minutes remaining and the game went to overtime, two 15-minute halves. It was still tied after 120 minutes of soccer, so we went once again to penalty kicks. The PCU goalie came up huge with a save, and another one of their players missed, so PCU won 4-2 in PKs.

On to the final, which is today at 2:15! The boys are going to be so, so tired and sore from yesterday.

soccer and softball

Seb's soccer team played in the quarterfinals of the President's Cup on Saturday night, against Foothills SC. PCU came out really strong and dominated possession during the first half -- constantly attacking, with 5-6 corner kicks. They scored one goal but couldn't get the ball in the net a second time, despite multiple chances. And then in the second half, they seemed to lose focus -- weren't completing passes or pushing forward. Foothills was taking a lot of shots on goal, and scored with about 10 minutes remaining in the game. That woke Seb's team up and they played really well in the waning minutes, with some good chances, but couldn't score.

Since the game ended in a tie, and it's single-elimination, they went to penalty kicks. The first five players from both sides all made their shots. Seb was 6th in line, and made his as well. Yay! And then the guy after him missed (went high), and his teammate Ace scored, and they won. Yay! On to the semi-finals next Saturday!

Liesl also played a game on Saturday, a morning softball game out west in Forest Grove. She pitched two innings and didn't let up any runs; she hit the ball all three times she was up to bat. She got thrown out once, her pop fly to center field was caught, and once she made it on base. A pretty good game all around.

Dalles Mountain Ranch hike

I had a two hour zoom meeting on Wednesday morning, one in which I was not expected to present or even speak, so I decided to use the time wisely. I opened the call on my phone and drove east along I84 into the Gorge. When the call ended, Jasper and I got out and hiked a beautiful 7-mile loop at Dalles Mountain Ranch. The balsamroot, lupines, and many other flowers were in prime spring bloom. It was pretty amazing.

Presidents Cup

Seb's team is competing in an end-of-season tournament, the Presidents Cup. They play two games of pool play, and then the top two teams in each bracket move on to quarter-finals, which are single elimination. They tied their first game last weekend, 1-1, but then played on Saturday and won convincingly 2-0. Seb had a great game in midfield, pushing forward to assist the offense and then tracking back on defense. He had some really really nice forward passes to the strikers. The team as a whole looked really good and were fun to watch.
