Thanksgiving

We celebrated Thanksgiving at home together. Steve, Jasper, and I went for a morning run in Forest Park; Liesl came home from sleeping over at Bailey's and played some basketball with us.

We decided not to cook this year; I ordered a complete dinner from Zupan's and we picked it up at noon. Turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, stuffing, brussels sprouts, green beans, salad, rolls. It was perfect -- the table was overflowing but the effort was minimal, and we all stuffed ourselves silly.

After a break for digestion (Steve fell asleep), we played Clue. So fun. Steve has previously crushed us all, guessing the answer before anyone else was even close, but this time Liesl knew the correct answer at the same time he did, and squeaked by him for the win.
I baked an apple pie for dessert, which was delicious.

Steve and Seb in SF

Steve and Seb flew down to SF on Sunday. They rented bikes that afternoon and biked around the city, to Golden Gate park, and then had pizza and pasta for dinner.

Steve had to go to federal court on Monday morning for a case hearing, but in the afternoon they explored again -- bakeries, the Ferry building, Chinese food, and a movie.

Tuesday adventures: more bakeries, and the Twin Peaks overlook.

happy birthday to Seb!

Sebastian turned 17 on Monday. 17!!! Happy happy birthday to our boy.
Dinner at Serrato's on Sunday night.

Brunch: baked oatmeal, berries, bacon, pears.
Presents! a video game; an F1 matchbox car, some new clothes, and the granddaddy of all...
... a MacBook Air.

Grandma Raab sent 10 lbs of Twizzlers. Holy moly.
In the late afternoon, new Jordan 4s arrived -- Seb ordered them from StockX a few weeks ago and they magically were delivered on his birthday.

He spent the afternoon playing soccer in the rain with his friend Jack, and then the evening playing in a Fortnite video game tourney with some friends. We had steak and mashed potatoes for dinner, and apple-blackberry pie for dessert, and it was sweet. Happy happy.

Klickitat trail race

Anja and I ran a half marathon this morning, on the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge. The race started in Lyle and followed a rail trail along the Klickitat River to the town of Klickitat. It was a slight but steady uphill climb, on a trail that was alternately rocky, leafy, packed dirt, and soft needles. The river was a constant presence, with hills rising all around us. Despite the late fall date, there was no rain and the sun even peeked through the clouds at times - amazing.

We finished in 2:05, a 9:35 pace. I was proud of our consistent pacing and strong finish -- but mostly, it was just nice to be out in the beautiful woods enjoying the day.

Halloween

Jasper and I dressed up for Halloween at my office -- students trick or treat in the Honors House during the afternoon (every professor has candy in their offices). He was a wolf in sheep's clothing, and I was a shepherd.

Liesl and Ella were little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf. They got absolutely drenched in rain for the first hour, but persisted and gathered untold quantities of candy.
