Adrienne, Marin, and I went camping and hiking at Mt Rainier this past weekend. We hiked 20 miles over two days, with about 5000 ft of elevation gain. It was unexpectedly hot, even at elevation, so we started hiking at 7:30 am both days to avoid it. We stayed at Silver Springs campground in the Baker/Snoqualmie national forest and drove in to the Sunrise entrance of Rainier.
On Friday, we hiked to
Burroughs Mountain, which was very exposed and windy. We started on Sourdough Ridge and passed Frozen Lake, then continued across a high plateau to Burroughs mountain. You could see all the glaciers up close -- pretty spectacular. We did a reverse lollipop loop, coming back down by an overlook of the White River and Shadow Lake.
The long trail going horizontally across the frame is the Wonderland trail, which circumnavigates the entire mountain. It's 90+ miles to backpack the whole thing.
Fremont Lookout, the tiny structure at the end of that trail. It's a popular spot to watch the sun set over the mountain.

This marmot was amazing -- scampered across a meadow to pose for us on top of this rock.

Heading back down -- it was pretty hot as we got lower in elevation and out of the wind.
