We had a very happy Halloween here -- it was not raining, and it wasn't very cold -- and the public school teachers all voted to strike starting Nov. 1st. So the kids could stay out and up as late as they wanted, and all sleep in.
Liesl and I decorated outside our townhouse -- a buried skeleton, with an apple in its mouth and a tombstone at its head; various sizes of pumpkins; orange lights on our railings; and spider webbing in the tree.
We carved pumpkins on Sunday and Monday, just in time to light them for Halloween night. Liesl had some cool ideas -- the backlit raven in particular.
Jasper dressed up as Sherlock Holmes for the holiday, and I was his trusty sidekick, Watson.
Our weekly staff meeting, but better. We hosted a trick-or-treating open house on Halloween, inviting all of our students to come through the faculty house and get candy from the faculty.
Liesl and Ella dressed up as doughnuts -- Liesl was Voodoo Doughnuts, a famous but not very tasty Portland place; Ella was Dunkin Donuts. They spraypainted their hair pink; they did some crazy makeup; they set out to trick or treat as much of the neighborhood as possible.
The girls ended their night here, counting and sorting candy. This is what 170 pieces of candy looks like!
