Seb's almost perfect game

Sebastian pitched a baseball game on Tuesday night that was outstanding. Here's his narration:

On Tuesday night, I pitched my first complete game ever. I threw 7 innings, 89 pitches, with 7 strikeouts and only 2 hits. In other outings this season I have been good but not amazing. I've gone 3-4 innings and thrown up to 90 pitches, but never gone the full 7. I'm a very accurate pitcher and I usually only walk 2-4 batters per game. But in this game, I had only 3 walks in all 7 innings.

The first inning started off with a bang. On my first pitch, the batter hit a ground ball to our third baseman, who threw him out at first. This was the first of many more plays like that. The second out of the inning came on the next three pitches, a strikeout. I managed to strike the batter out with my newly developed slider, which I've been working on in practice. The third out came on a grounder to the shortstop, who again threw the batter out at first.

The second inning was my best inning of the night, by far. In fact, it only took 4 pitches. The first pitch was a grounder straight back at me. I grabbed it, ran a few steps to first, and threw him out. The second pitch was a grounder to our first baseman who easily fielded it and stepped on the bag. I then threw a pitch on the outside corner, for a strike. The second pitch drifted too close to the middle of the plate and the batter hit a pop fly to right field -- our fielder took two steps and caught it.

The third inning wasn't quite as good. They went down 1-2-3, with two strikeouts and yet another grounder. The fourth inning was almost exactly like the third, except it was one strikeout, one ground-out, and a pop-fly.

By this point in the game, my team had amassed 6 runs and many hits off the two pitchers on the Grant team. I myself had two walks, as none of the pitches came anywhere close to the plate. (Maybe they were scared of my size and muscles.)

The fifth inning was where I lost my perfect game. I walked two batters, thanks to some questionable calls by the umpire, but then managed to pick off the guy on first base. I struck out the next two batters.

The sixth inning was where I lost both the shutout and my no-hitter. :(  Their leadoff hitter reached out and blooped a hit over our third baseman. The next guy grounded out but moved the runner to second. The next batter also got a hit, right up the middle, and the runner on second base scored. The batter got to second after our center fielder attempted to throw it home (wildly). I walked the next batter and was officially in trouble. Thanks to a couple of good plays by the defense, we got out of the inning with 2 more groundouts and no more runs.

The seventh inning went as smoothly as the first four, with a strikeout, a pop-fly, and lastly a strikeout on a slider to end the game. The last pitch was my 89th pitch, which means that I would have had to come out of the game if I didn't strike him out, as 90 pitches per game is the Little League limit.

Final score: 8-1. Coach gave me the game ball.
