Both kids kicked off the summer with the Beaverton Cup 4v4 soccer tournament this weekend. The games are short - two 12-minute halves - and are played on short fields with tiny goals, 4 players at a time. It was humid and sunny on Saturday, and it poured rain literally all day today, but it was a great tournament and so much fun to watch.
Liesl's team dominated their bracket, winning all three games (10-0, 7-2, and 4-2). But then they came out a little slow and got unlucky in the semifinal and lost 2-0, despite possessing the ball for much of the game and taking over a dozen excellent shots on goal. There was a magical force field around the net that kept all of their shots from scoring! They were really disappointed and sad to not make the final game, which would have been against the other LYS 10G team -- their friends and teammates (who ended up winning their division). But they rallied and won the consolation game 7-3. Not the result they wanted, but still a good weekend.
Seb's team tied their first game 3-3 and then won the next two 7-2 and 12-2. That set them up for the final game of their age division, against the other LYS 07B team. It was fun to watch the two Lincoln teams play each other for the championship; Seb's team went down 4-0 but then rallied to win it 9-5. They were really happy and it was sweet to see.
