We celebrated Liesl's birthday on Friday with a party - lots of games, snacks, a scavenger hunt, cupcakes, presents, pumpkin decorating, and more! Liesl invited Maya, Nora, Claire, Zara, and Eleanor to come over for a few hours of fun. Grandma Raab also came to enjoy the festivities, and was an invaluable contributor of decorations, snacks, and the stuffed skull pinata!
We started things off with a dance party with balloons, which morphed into more of a balloon war -
Then we played a game of "pin the baby ghost on the mama ghost" -- our take on pin-the-tail-on-the donkey. We blindfolded the girls and spun them around before setting them loose to stumble and flail and eventually pin their baby ghosties.
And then they took turns whacking the skull pinata, which was full of various trinkets and toys (in light of the fact that it was the day after Halloween, no candy this time). I think we have some future softball stars in the house.
Once it had been well and truly broken open, the girls shoved everything into a big pile and sorted everything out so that everyone had one of every type/sort of item (ring, popper, bouncy ball, stretchy bracelet, paint kit, hair tie, etc.).
Next up: pass the parcel! Like musical chairs, except that when the music stops and you're the one holding the parcel, you get to open the wrapping paper, discover a prize inside, and keep it!
Sebastian was our dj for pass-the-parcel and throughout.
We headed to the dining table for snacks and decorating ghost pumpkins.
While the girls were safely at the table, Steve was putting the last touches on his epic annual birthday scavenger hunt.
And then we finally turned to the main event: presents and birthday cake!
I made chocolate cupcakes and set out a variety of toppings for the girls to make it their own -- whipped cream, sprinkles, chocolate
chips, butterscotch chips, sliced almonds, strawberries.
Eleanor buried her chocolate chips inside the whipped cream, and was very pleased with herself.
Maya went for more chips than cake.
Nora was the whipped cream winner.
