On Wednesday night we got dressed in our fancy clothes and went downtown to the Keller Auditorium to see a performance of the Hip Hop Nutcracker (promo clip here). The music is Tchaikovsky, with a violinist playing live on stage for part of the performance, but the storyline is contemporary NYC/Harlem and the dancing is all hip hop and breakdancing. It was pretty cool - Sebastian liked it more than he expected - and Steve and I had a good time enjoying the energy of the crowd and performers. Liesl and Nora thought it was fun, maybe a little loud, but they were not entirely satisfied with the costuming and lack of adherence to the Nutcracker story. :)
