ouch

So this happened on Wednesday morning. Sebastian was running to school, kicking his soccer ball, and then bent down to scoop it up (still at a run). He tripped over his feet and fell hard on his right shoulder on the concrete sidewalk. There were scrapes and bruises, of course, but he went off to school after getting cleaned up. But then at the end of the day he was still favoring the arm and not moving it very much, so we went to the pediatrician to get it checked out. She felt that an X-ray was in order, to rule out a break in the upper arm or clavicle. She also gave us a sling so that his arm could be supported while we awaited the results. We got the x-ray late on Wednesday; Seb happily wore the sling to school on Thursday. I think he was a little excited about the attention it would bring (although in fact, he noted later that it had been a little too much attention and questioning). Fortunately, we got good news on Thursday afternoon: no broken bones! Just a bruise, or a mild sprain, and already healing.

He was able to run around again on Friday, and he played in his soccer game today. We decided against baseball since he still doesn't have the range of motion in his right shoulder, but I expect he'll be back by Tuesday's practice. Phew. That would have thrown a monkey wrench into our spring schedule of swimming, piano, and baseball! And made for a very sad small boy.
