On Saturday morning, Sebastian's baseball team had their game at Alpenrose field, a beautiful facility that has hosted national softball league events. Seb's team got to play on the main field, so there was proper grass and bases, groomed infield dirt, a big scoreboard and a grandstand. It was pretty cute to see them running in and out of the dugout and looking very official.

We went straight from there to HK Cafe for dimsum with the Hoangs and our mutual dancer friend Ching Ching Wong. The restaurant was perfect - large round tables with lots of Chinese people and a deafening din, half a dozen carts filled with shumai and pork buns and gailan and sesame balls and sticky rice wraps and roast duck, the overwhelming in-your-face immediacy of older Chinese ladies dropping food onto your table - everything right, as it should be. The food was pretty good, with some things better than others, but a totally decent place for dimsum. It was great to be there with our favorite fellow omnivores, and to eat and talk and try everything. We'll go back. (Ching Ching teaches the Monday night Jazz 101 class at Northwest Dance Project - Anne and I love the class, because she's an amazing and inspiring and fun teacher. She also performs with the company and is outstanding. In a perfect, Portland-is-a-small-town way, we've become friends.)
We came home after dimsum to rub our bellies, rest, and recover, and then a babysitter came to take care of the children while Steve and I met up with Michela and Brian to see the Portland Thorns women's soccer team play. It was a great game - the home team won 4-1 - and a really fun night of talking and laughing with the Bedards.
So fun. So nice to have a community of friends here.
