We left Porto in the morning, after some frustrating/harrowing/entirely typical struggles to get out of the old city via car. We headed north to the area near Geres, near a national park and gorgeous scenery. Steve had found a really amazing resort called Pousadela Village, set halfway up the hillside above this lake. The views were just stunning.
Our rooms were inside these boulders, which were built to look like the granite boulders that litter the various hillsides. Seb and Liesl's rock had this little flower-bedecked bridge to approach the entrance. It even looked like rock inside the rooms. This second photo is our room, a little higher up the hillside - again, amazing views from our balcony over the river valley.
Liesl was possibly most thrilled about this outdoor infinity pool.
We had lunch and then L and I immediately hopped in the pool. It was hot and sticky, and the water felt amazing.
Steve explored the upper building, which is the newest part of this resort (just completed in April 2024). There's an indoor pool, a sauna, and a games room with billiards and foosball. We spent the rest of the afternoon swimming and playing games, taking a break from being city tourists and sightseeing, and it was lovely.
The billiards table was not standard -- it had sharper corners and a harder surface -- so it led to a a lot of frustration and possibly cursing and very long games (because we couldn't sink anything).

Liesl and I went for an early evening swim, right before dinner, in the gorgeous golden light.
