all-star baseball team

Sebastian was invited to try out for an all-star baseball team, to be comprised of boys from 3rd and 4th grade playing in the Lincoln High school catchment area. I think about 40 boys attended the tryout -- out of the 100 or more who play through Lincoln Youth Baseball in this age group. Happily, Sebastian made the top team, along with two other friends from the neighborhood; he was elated.

His first chance to meet the team and coach C.J., who coaches the high school baseball team - was last weekend, when they played a double-header on Saturday. Seb played shortstop and left field, and pitched two fantastic innings of strikeouts and easily field pop-flies. He got a hit, got walked two or three times, and got beaned in the head by a pitch. His fielding was a little inconsistent but not too bad - he caught one fly ball and threw out a couple of base runners. All in all, it was a pretty great experience, and he'll get to keep playing with this all-star team on weekend tournaments into the summer. He was nervous at first, which seemed reasonable, but settled down after a few pitches and found his rhythm.
