Far West Regionals in Boise

Seb's PCU soccer team played in the Far West regionals soccer tournament this weekend in Boise. Each state in the west gets to send one team, except for California, which gets two teams. There are four regions in the country; the winners of each regional tournament go to nationals. 

The boys departed in a team van on Thursday morning for the long drive. We followed on Friday, because of Jasper's surgical recovery and the Honors graduation ceremony.

The tournament was played at an enormous complex, the Simplot Sports fields, on the eastern edge of Boise. Beautiful grass fields. Seb’s team played at 8 am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; they lost 2-0 to SoCal, 3-1 to Arizona, and then won 4-0 against Colorado.

This team is a mix of boys who have played on the 2006 team, the 2007, and the 2008. It's confusing. But this photo is of the OG 2007s, Seb's teammates and friends since he joined PCU in spring 2022.

The boys had a really fun time between games -- coach Michael made them all do a 10-minute cold plunge in the Boise River after each game, which was awesome. And then they hung out eating food together, played a poker tournament, played FIFA soccer on an Xbox, and rented Lime scooters and zoomed all around downtown Boise. They apparently took over entire streets (11 boys on scooters), jumped curbs and ramps at a skate park, joined part of the No Monarchs rally for a bit, heckled the pro-Trumpers, and generally had a great time.
