international art nights

On Wednesday and Thursday nights last week, the school hosted two (one for K-2 and one for 3-5) internationally themed art performances. Each grade had learned songs from a different country, in a different language, and performed for us. Liesl's grade had studied Japan outside of music class as well - they went on a field trip to the Japanese garden, learned some kanji, and drew koi fish and cherry blossoms.

(Liesl's team had a baseball game on the same night, which we moved up by 15 minutes and then cut short in order to race over to the performance. It was cute and funny to see her in her uniform up on the stage, among all the girls.)

The 5th grade class studied Egypt, learning an Egyptian song and a dance. The dance was super cool to watch - I was proud of Seb for learning the steps and movement and doing it with confidence.

There was also a gallery walk of the 5th grade portrait project - a photo and poem written by each kid. It was fun to read what they had all written about themselves and their hopes and fears. (Best fears: my sister; Donald Trump getting re-elected; dolls and clowns.)
