camping at Lower Falls in the Gifford Pinchot

We went camping on the weekend at Lower Falls on the Lewis River in Washington. It was spectacularly beautiful - perfect weather, a set of three enormous and impressive waterfalls, a mossy dense forest - it was really terrific. We packed up the trusty Honda Civic on Friday morning - not a spot to spare!
We arrived mid-afternoon and set up camp. The kids and I managed to get the tent up by ourselves on the first try - a new achievement! Jasper was a little suspicious of the whole enterprise but sniffed around and eventually settled in.
We went exploring down to the Lewis River, which was next to our campground. The water was cold and moving pretty fast, but there were places to put your toes in.
Dinner! Followed by a campfire and s'mores, and riding bikes around the campground, and pumping water from an enormous old-fashioned pump.

We woke up the following morning at the crack of dawn - 5:30 or so - and since no one else was awake in the campground, went exploring downstream along the river. This is the eponymous Lower Falls of the Lewis River.
We went back to our camp and ate breakfast, and then kids used my old Swiss army knife to do some whittling and carving.
