mama's weekend in Bend

I spent the weekend in the Bend area with Adrienne, Elise, Anne, and Michela - left on Friday afternoon and came back today, tired but happy. We stayed in Sunriver, in a lovely house owned by Michaela's aunt, and enjoyed the freedom to walk, talk, drink, stay up late, drink and talk some more, and laugh.

On Saturday, we intended to hike up to the lake at Broken Top crater, but couldn't make it. The weather in Sunriver was cold and sunny, but as we drove up into the mountains the clouds descended and it started to snow. SNOW! We were not prepared for the cold wetness and the white-out conditions - hiked a mile or so in and then decided to turn back. In addition, we were unnerved by the appearance of various groups of hunters. HUNTERS! In their camo and orange vests, carrying large guns. We decided not to get shot in our quest for fresh air.

Back in Sunriver, we napped and then walked along the Deschutes River to Benham Falls - it was gorgeous out and a peaceful walk - 

We enjoyed two really delicious dinners in Bend, at a Thai restaurant and a Middle Eastern one called Joolz. There was wine and much silliness involved.
