On Saturday afternoon we drove out to the Salt Creek Recreation Area for some beachcombing and tidepooling fun. The kids stared longingly at Crescent beach, but we couldn't get there from our spot on the coast and it was growing late - next time.
We stooped and clambered through that hole in the rocks to walk along the beach.
The promised ice cream following our hike - we couldn't identify a good ice cream shop in Port Angeles, so instead we went to Safeway and bought Haagen Daz pints and a box of cones. Happiness ensued for everyone.
On Sunday morning, we cleaned up the house and packed our things at record speed, and then took off for Port Townsend. We parked at North Beach and walked along the very foggy coast in search of beach glass, shells, rocks, anemones, crabs, and other treasures.
We had lunch in Port Townsend - bought some books at a local used bookstore - and then said goodbye and drove four hours home to Portland. It was nice to be back in our own beds after the vacation, but it was a great time.
