Sebastian has become really interested in tennis this summer - it started with some old balls and our (ancient) tennis racquets, hitting the ball back and forth with Nadine on the street in front of our house. Then he started taking a racquet over to the school to hit a ball against the wall there and also using chalk to outline a court on our street.
On Saturday, while Liesl and I were off on our Timothy Lake adventure, the boys had a bicycle/tennis outing. They rode their bikes from here to the Sunset Max train station, hopped on the train heading downtown, ate lunch at Pine St. (pizza and Israeli food), and then went to Target for new small-sized tennis racquets and tennis balls. They rode the train back and then biked to some nearby tennis courts to actually hit the ball over a net on a real court. Sebastian has pretty good coordination and has a decent forehand already; his backhand needs work but he's really enjoying it. And he's fast, with a good sense of how to position himself on the court and get himself set before hitting the ball.
We went back to the tennis courts on Sunday morning, the whole family, to play some more. Liesl got into it too - it's still a victory when she just makes contact with the racquet and the ball - but it was really fun.
