Liesl's birthday/Halloween party

We celebrated Liesl's birthday on Saturday with a combination birthday/Halloween party. Liesl only wanted a small party, with her best girlfriends, and so we invited Camille, Vivienne, Nina, and their parents to come over and spend the day partying, eating, and then trick-or-treating together.

Camille was absolutely perfect as a cheetah. Her roar was terrifying. :)

Steve created a few games for the girls to play - this first one was super fun and inventive - he called it creating a monster. He blindfolded the girls and then put "body parts" into their hands for them to touch - eyeballs (grapes), nose (pickle), ears (dried mango), hair (paper), and brains (noodles).  Liesl was the only one who would touch the brains. :)  It was funny and sweet to see them getting totally grossed out by the various parts.

 

 

Steve's second game was a spider race - a three legged race crossed with a crab crawl.

 

 

 

 

And the third game was a treasure hunt. Each girl had to get a balloon and pop it, and then find a clue written inside. And then they had to hunt for the object that was written on the clue in order to find a piece of candy.

The children got to eat their mac and cheese (with bacon!) first; predictably, while the grownups were trying to enjoy their own dinner the children were madly parading around chanting "trick or treat, trick or treat!!" and waving glow sticks. 

Presents! Liesl got a couple of sweet books, some amazing finger puppets in the shape of Liesl and Bunny Foofoo (hand-made by Crystal), and a scrapbook craft kit.

And finally.... chocolate cupcakes!

And then after cupcakes we went out into the torrential rain and did some trick-or-treating around our neighborhood. (It was a dark and stormy night... no photos were taken...). But here was the loot.
