Monday felt like the last day of summer - sure, the kids' schools had started, but that was just a test run for a few days to shake off the cobwebs. Labor Day weekend was our last chance before the press of practices, classes, meetings, and games take over our days and weekends - our next free day will be in November. So the kids and I packed up the car and drove to Cannon Beach to glory in our usual haunts and activities - running and leaping across the sand, playing beach baseball, jumping the waves, making a sandcastle, rolling down the dunes, throwing balls for Jasper to swim and fetch. We ate fish and chips and fish tacos at Tom's, we bought saltwater taffy. It was a glorious last day of summer, and we rolled back into Portland at 7 pm, sandy, tired, dirty, hungry, but happy.
