We did our usual favorite trip via bus, train, and aquabus around Granville Island in downtown Vancouver. We had lunch on the waterfront and then walked around town - there were lots of sights, so many people, and for the children, the joy of riding in the front of the trains. We went to Gastown to see an amazing Inuit art gallery and then bought some books at MacLeod's.
On Wednesday, we were tired from two days of city sight-seeing, and stayed closer to White Rock. We went to the garden and gathered vegetables (fresh peapods and tomatoes and beans and carrots and greens!!!!), walked/biked along Crescent Beach, and then in the late afternoon went to the White Rock boardwalk for their Canada 150 celebration.
We watched the Canadian Snowbirds airforce jets fly formations and do aerial tricks above us - we were initially skeptical, but it turned out to be really pretty amazing and cool. They flew so close together! It was awe-inspiring and a little terrifying.
On Thursday, we went to the Museum of Anthropology at UBC - enormous totems, many masks, sculptural carvings of animals and people, useful objects designed beautifully (canoes, arrows, pots), drums and musical instruments - beautiful artifacts from native peoples in BC and around the world. peoples in BC and around the world.
From the museum, we drove across Vancouver and up to Squamish for the next part of our BC vacation.
