Ode to Joy

Sebastian slipped this note into my work bag on Thursday morning, and just like that, the piano lessons (and daily reminders to practice) feel totally worth it.

Ode to Joy is familiar to him because he's learning it on the recorder in school music class. He's heard the melody numerous times and I've played the full Beethoven symphony for him.

I duly printed out the simple version of the piano sheet music on my office printer. He's been practicing it now for the last few days and it's sounding better and better. So good! There's nothing better than having Ode to Joy stuck in your head to hum.  He's still making some mistakes, but he's getting better at it and he's choosing to practice over and over, which is half the battle.

This is another piece he's been working on, called Bagpipe. The left-hand chords have been a real challenge but he's again but persevering.
