We had a beautiful and fun family Easter weekend. Saturday morning we visited the downtown Portland farmers market, then came back to Forest Heights for our local Easter egg hunt, down at the duck pond. It turned out to be less of a hunt then a crazy scrum/dash, in which neither of our children proved to have the requisite hoarding and elbowing skills to amass very many eggs. But it was fine - we played outside in the sunshine at the playground. The afternoon improved with a family hike in Forest Park. We went on our new favorite loop, out on Firelane 7, along the Ridge trail, a left turn onto the Wildwood trail, and back up via the Hardesty trail (about 2 miles). It was beautiful and we were all really happy to be out. For dinner we celebrated my birthday with a return to Bar Mingo, a delicious Italian restaurant on NW 21st Ave. We ate garlicky clams, butter lettuce with smoked trout, wild mushroom crespelles, ravioli, and linguine with peas and sausage in a cream sauce. The children were delightfully well behaved.
The Easter bunny visited overnight, bringing treats (chocolates and candies) and hiding hard-boiled eggs. The kids ran around and found all the eggs (phew!) and then we decorated them. (Yes, yes, totally backwards - our Easter bunny left us plain eggs to be decorated on the morning itself...). We had a good time perching on the front stoop and coloring eggs. After that, we went to an Easter egg hunt downtown on the waterfront, organized by a moms group that we've joined. It was super fun. The afternoon was quieter - the local playground, and dinner at home en famille.
