We had one last morning in Milan, which we spent joy-riding around on scooters and trying coffee and pastries from various shops, and then we took two trains to the airport, flew to London, and took more trains to our hotel near St Pancras station. We were starving, and immediately went out for Indian food. So good.
On Saturday and Sunday, we had two tickets to see the British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone -- separate blog post about that experience.
Liesl and I spent Saturday wandering around Seven Dials and Covent Garden, browsing the shops and people-watching, and then watching the new Paddington musical at the Savoy Theatre in the West End. It was utterly outstanding -- amazing singing and acting, spectacular set design, really funny dialogue, very much an adult-themed production. The only flaw was that it was extremely loud, deafeningly so. But we were happy to see such a cool production.
We followed that up with dinner at the Wellington pub - steak pie, fish and chips, sticky toffee pudding -so good.
On Sunday, Steve and Liesl had fancy breakfast and then even fancier afternoon tea at the Dorchester. In between, they wandered around Mayfair giggling at $100,000 watches and such things.
High tea at the Dorchester. They brought actual strawberry plants to the table and plucked the berries to serve with sugar and cream.
On Monday, we wandered around Notting Hill, once again enjoying the sights and shops, and eating excellent food. (After joining us for breakfast, Seb collapsed at the hotel, enjoying the quiet coolness after two very loud and hectic F1 days.)
For our final dinner on vacation, we went to another pub (400 years old!) and had the most amazing chicken pot pies and sticky toffee pudding.
We watched Spain play against Portugal in the World Cup - they won, yay! And then we packed up to head home on Tuesday.
