The Lincoln softball team played their friendly rival Wells HS in the annual Council Crest Cup on Wednesday night. The teams were announced, the trophy cup was displayed, the anthem sung, etc. There were a lot of the little league girl players there to cheer on both sides, so it was actually a pretty big crowd.
Our team has been winless in the PIL division; Wells has been more successful, and had already beat us twice this season. But our girls were excited and came out really strong. Liesl played second base and did well; she had some good outs and also some good hits at bat. At the end of 7 innings (regular time), they were tied at 7. Tie-breaker innings begin with a runner on second base, to help ensure runs get scored and the game ends.
Liesl was the first batter up in the order, and she came through with a solid double down the middle -- her teammate Lila scored from second base, and Liesl made it to third base on the throw home. The crowd went wild! And then the next three Lincoln batters struck out, which was disappointing. 8-7 for Lincoln, bottom of the 8th.
Lincoln went out into the field and got an out, but then there was a base hit, so Wells had runners at second and third. And then a girl hit a line drive directly at our pitcher, who caught it, whirled around, and threw it to Liesl at second base, who caught it and tagged second base for a double play. YAYAYAYAYAY!!! Victory!!!
