annual smashing of gingerbread houses

We went into Forest Park today for a lovely long walk, enjoying the unseasonably warm and sunny weather. Jasper enjoyed romping with Seb; Steve ran a few miles; Liesl told stories of fairies who left us treasure clues in the forest (in rhyming couplets, no less)... it was sweet.

But before the hiking began, we enjoyed the annual smashing of the gingerbread houses.

 Sebastian added a new twist this year: batting practice.

We came home and had lunch, made pecan pie truffles, painted a winter scene to decorate the dining room, did some chores and laundry, and went grocery shopping - and then Liesl had her first basketball practice of the year. She did great - sprinted, dribbled, passed, shot - all in good spirits. I think she's going to have a great season playing with her friends. Happy Saturday, all!
